Grid Emulator
The Impedyme Grid Emulator , part of the CHP Series platform , is a next-generation regenerative grid simulation and emulation system designed for advanced Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Power Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL) testing. This state-of-the-art solution is ideal for validating renewable energy systems, microgrid controllers, inverter performance, and other grid-interactive devices under realistic conditions. Key Features Regenerative Grid Emulation with PHIL Interface The CHP Series provides a fully regenerative power stage capable of sourcing and sinking current up to 100% of its rated power. This makes it perfect for dynamic grid simulation and bi-directional power flow testing—ideal for renewable energy applications, distributed grid studies, and inverter certification workflows. High Power Density With a compact footprint, the CHP Series delivers up to 110 kVA/kW in a single cabinet, and systems can be paralleled up to 550 kVA/kW. For large-scale projects, custom three-phase high-power configurations of 1.3 MW and above are available on request. This scalability makes the CHP Series an ideal grid simulator platform for both R&D labs and compliance testing environments, enabling engineers to replicate real-world grid conditions at virtually any power level. Advanced Power Disturbance Simulation With three high-performance DSPs, the CHP Series grid emulator enables precise grid simulation of real-world conditions, including harmonics, voltage sags/swells, flicker, and other power quality events — without external equipment. This makes it a powerful grid simulator for research and compliance testing. Optimized for PHIL Its low-latency PHIL capibility ensures stable, high-fidelity grid simulation, allowing direct connection of inverters, relays, and protection devices for realistic closed-loop testing. Impedyme GridSim Studio App Impedyme GridSim Studio is a powerful and intuitive graphical user interface designed to configure, operate, and visualize real-time grid emulation scenarios. It is a core component of Impedyme’s CHP ( Combined HIL and Power HIL ) platform, enabling seamless control of advanced grid-tied power electronics testing environments. It provides advanced features for both research applications and compliance testing, including support for standards such as IEEE 1547, UL 1741, and IEC 61000. Purpose and Benefits for IEEE 1547 Compliance IEEE 1547 requires Distributed Energy Resource (DER) inverters and power converters to remain connected during specified voltage and frequency deviations. The GridSim Studio platform, working in tandem with the Impedyme grid emulator and grid simulator, enables: Automated ride-through testing without external scripting Stress testing at boundary points of permissible limits Failure detection based on trip zones Repeatable and programmable test scenarios, ensuring consistent grid simulation and validation for certification purposes By combining these features with the Grid Impedance Model (R, L, C), users can also simulate realistic grid emulation conditions such as low-impedance faults, resonances, and voltage sags/swells. | Motor Emulation HIL Testing Using the RCP Box Early-stage inverter development often involves high uncertainty. The Impedyme RCP box offers motor emulation at the signal level, allowing you to test unmodified controller hardware using high-fidelity real-time simulation—without risking physical components. Fast UUT Commissioning: Enjoy easy test setup with only four parameters needing definition to begin the testing process. Rapid Parameter Adjustment: Easily and quickly adjust several parameters, such as R and L, via a simple mouse click during operation. Minimum Facility Requirements: Only a 5kW AC connection for power and no water connection for cooling is needed as the system is stand-alone liquid cooled without external chiller. Realistic Power Emulation: Four-quadrant mode enables full torque/speed operation, allowing active power testing under true-to-life conditions. Motor Emulator Testing Platform from Signal to Power: With Impedyme’s integrated RCP and CHP systems, engineers can validate control logic at the signal level and scale seamlessly to high-power testing—all within one unified platform. Ensure full traceability and uncompromised performance throughout the development cycle. Unified Platform: Impedyme RT + Simulation Toolkit Impedyme delivers a state-of-the-art platform that seamlessly integrates advanced hardware and software to redefine real-time testing for power electronics and electric motor systems. At the core of this ecosystem is the Impedyme Electric Motor Simulation Toolkit, designed to help control engineers rapidly configure high-performance test environments. Fully compatible with Impedyme’s broader real-time testing infrastructure, this toolkit streamlines setup and ensures robust, scalable integration—empowering teams to accelerate development, improve test coverage, and enhance overall system reliability. Impedyme-RT Impedyme-RT is a configuration-driven, real-time testing environment designed to streamline the creation of powerful and flexible test applications. It enables efficient real-time communication between target and host, robust data logging, dynamic stimulus generation, and intelligent alarm detection and handling — all in a unified platform. With Impedyme-RT, you can seamlessly transition from pure simulation-based testing to full hardware in the loop (HIL) validation. It allows you to reuse essential test assets, including profiles, alarms, procedures, and analysis routines, saving significant time during regression testing. By easily remapping model parameters to real-world hardware channels, Impedyme-RT simplifies the integration of simulation models with physical I/O systems. Furthermore, it supports automation through test executive tools availble in MATLAB Simulink for comprehensive, scalable test execution. Built with an open architecture, Impedyme-RT empowers users to extend its capabilities with real-time plug-ins, delivering maximum adaptability for application-specific needs. Combined with the Power HIL, engineers can achieve advanced motor modeling capabilities, whether on a standard real-time hardware setup or leveraging high-speed FPGA-based platforms for ultra-precise simulation and testing.
